Extracurricular Activities

Each year, outside of music classes we frequently have parent (or teacher/student) led activities for both parents and kids. In past years this has included ukulele group, music and movement classes, fiddling, busking and violin classes for parents.

These activities are in addition to the Tweens/Teenage programme and Parent Talk/Kids Movie night which we run each year.

This year we are happy to have the following activities available. A full evening schedule will be available at camp once all activities have been finalized.

Pilates

Bruce Thomson who is a certified Pilates Instructor and Bowen therapist has generously offered to run free classes at Summer Camp.

These will be Pilates mat classes for movement improvement and posture awareness. It is open to teenagers and older and is not just about core, it is as much about awareness that unlocks movement capability.

There will be enough equipment for nine participants and there will be a session each morning starting at 7am which will last for approximately 40 minutes.

Sign-up will be at camp where Bruce will be able to provide further details.

Venue to be posted at camp.

Fiddling

Kathryn Adam will be doing a little talk/demo on Traditional Irish Fiddle Style after dinner on Wednesday in the dining room. Anyone who wants to come along is welcome!

Music and Mental Health

Lucy Kelly and Amalia Drain will be doing a talk on music and mental health. They are both extremely passionate about this topic and will love to share their knowledge with parents.

Time and venue to be posted at camp.

Kids Age 7-10 years

A key part of camp is making friends with new people! Some social activities and games are being organized for children aged 7-10 years, starting on Wednesday.

First time campers are particularly encouraged to attend as this will be a good opportunity to meet others outside of music lessons. Hannah Perry will be running these sessions and other parents (or older kids) are most welcome to assist.

Time and venue to be posted at camp.

Rock-climbing

We are looking to book the stadium one evening to run some sport activities for the younger (and not so young) kids. There is also a climbing wall within the stadium which we are permitted to use as long we have a climbing instructor present.

We do have experienced climbers coming to camp but will still need someone who has either a Rock Leader or Rock 1 qualification to allow us to use the wall. If you do have either qualification or know someone in Timaru who does and is willing to help out, please let us know.

Parent Violin Group Classes

If there is enough demand from parents we will ask one of the tutors to run a group violin class for parents. This would focus more on getting the parents up to speed to assist and help their children more effectively. Please email us if you are interested.
